Zee JLF 2018 | Panelists highlight how China has flouted norms to build dams


Though India's relationship with Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar has been cordial, the biggest threat to peace in the South Asian neighbourhood comes from Pakistan and China. Author and columnist pointed out how China has repeatedly flouted a rule-based international system to further its interests. The panelists proposed creating a coalition to put pressure on China to mend it's ways. The other session titled The People Next Door, featuring panelists from Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar highlighted the need for greater people-to-people convergence through cultural exchange programmes with greater participation of the youth. The speakers agreed that as a democracy India's role is paramount in ensuring that the balance in South Asia is not disturbed.
